From the 13th to 17th of May 2024, the United States and Kenya held the fifth round of negotiations under their Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership (STIP) in Washington, D.C..

The Kenyan delegation, led by the Principal Secretary for Trade Alfred K’Ombudo, travelled to Washington, D.C. to meet the US delegation, led by Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Constance Hamilton.

This round of negotiations built on previous in person meetings in DC, attempting to resolve outstanding frictions and deepen mutual understanding. This round primarily focused on agriculture; workers’ rights and protections; and customs and trade facilitation and enforcement as priority areas of negotiation.
